Instructor Michael Denney has been resident drummer for "The Yoruba House
Drum Ensemble" Led by Master Drummer and Ifa Priest - Ayo Adeyemi and also "The
Nigerian Talking Drum Ensemble" led by World-renowned Talking Drum Master -
Frances Awe. Michael also teaches djembe and teaches "African Drumming for
Communication" for organizations and Companies. Michael is also founder of
"Trance Warrior" a tribal percussion group.

He will be offering weekly drum classes at Columbia Music Festival Association, 914 Pulaski Street, Columbia, SC 29201, beginning Monday, May 10, 6-7:00 PM. The classes are suitable for beginning to intermediate drummers. Classes are $15.00 per session.

Classes are $5. Bring your own drum or use one of mine. Solomon Shokes began studying West African drums at the age of 8. He has served as Musical Director in several companies including, Lololi Drummers, Kokaye, Kilimanjaro, Djole Drum and Dance Co., Nia Productions, RBM, and Adande Dance Co. Solomon is currently a principal member of Borenya West African Drum and Dance Ensemble. Solomon Shokes brings the vibrant cultural arts of West Africa to children and adults through residencies, workshops and classes. Authentic instruments are used to teach intricate drum rhythms and ancient melodies. Solomon also offers corporate team building workshops. He believes the enthusiasm generated by the drums is contagious which is evident in his dynamic approach to teaching West African music and dance. Solomon's residencies hold students in rapt attention and generate an eagerness to learn more about these ancient percussion and dance traditions. Solomon Shokes provides djembe, doundoun and other authentic instrumental instruction for an intensive, hands on program. His residencies range from single day workshops to full week programs.
