Welcome to candombe.com
(01-00)
- The purpose of this website is to introduce you to this
wonderful Afro-Uruguayan rhythm, it's origin, it's sound, images, and many of the people involved. You will learn
about the three different tambores (drums), tambor piano, tambor chico and tambor repique,
that when played together create this unique rhythm. We suggest that you travel through
this site in the order it is presented, and take the necessary time to hear each of the
sound samples wherever indicated. We hope this will be an enjoyable experience for you. By
now you must be wondering, What
is Candombe?
Cajon building (7/03)
percussion
builder specializing in the cajon (a wooden box drum originally from Peru &
Cuba) and the marimbula (a Caribbean bass box similar to a large bass thumb
piano). In both cases the player sits on the box to play. Afro-Cuban conga
techniques translate well to the cajon. Cajons are used in Afro-Latin music,
Flamenco, and also for many unplugged type sessions as simulating a drumset
groove on the cajon is relatively simple to achieve.
