Resumé of teacher :
Sarah Derum is a Victorian College of the Arts graduate who has trained in
West African dance and drum technique during her travels in Africa in 1998.
She studied with the Kusun Cultural group in Ghana as well as many Melbourne
based West African dance specialists.  She is founding member of dance
troupe Lasso and features as guest performer at many cultural events
about Melbourne and beyond.

Description of dance class - Vibrant and energetic. For the experienced and/or professional dancer wanting to explore the mechanics and diversity of West African dance styles. Styles covered are Djembe styles, Sabar styles, Mbalax styles, Bougarabou, Tukular, Mandinke,  Serer styles, Bambara and Peul or Fula styles.
Private tuition is also available at $60/$50 p/h

Rujeko teaches African Dance

Rujeko, born and raised among the Shona people of Zimbabwe, has had a rich life steeped in the ancient music and dance traditions of her people.  Coming from a lineage of master musicians, dancers and healers, Rujeko is not only an electrifying performer, but has a wealth of knowledge and dance history to share.
      Since 1991 Rujeko has been teaching and sharing what Zimbabwe's thriving culture has to offer.  Currently Rujeko teaches together with Chris at The College of Sante Fe and The University of New Mexico.
      African dance and rhythms evoke joy in their wholesome celebration of life.  Together Chris and Rujeko's workshops are energetic, highly spirited moving to both body and soul.

Resumé of teacher: Widely known to industry insiders as ‘neeni-tuti’ (a Senegalese nick name), Janine is a talented and charismatic facilitator, instructor, performer and choreographer.  A professional dancer, Janine comes from a diverse background of more than 25 years of dance training. Her formal training involved tap, modern jazz, and contemporary styles. Following a trip to Africa in 1995 Janine became fascinated with African Rhythms and subsequently studied traditional percussion and dance under renowned Master teachers from Guinea and Senegal - West Africa. Resumé of teacher: Inge is versatile freelance dancer, teacher, choreographer, preferably working with professional musicians.
Specialized in contemporary dance and jazz dance at dance academy Codarts, University of the Arts in Rotterdam, she got granted with a scholarship to specialize in African dance in West-Africa.
She trained with National Dance Companies in Ghana and Guinea and at the University of Arts in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, as well as with Troupe Yelemba d’Abidjan. Inge uses her 4-year Western training in, and knowledge of, education in dance in non-Western dance forms, which helps her students enormously
