Special traditional West African Dance Workshops!!!

Roxella Camara has studied the traditional dances of Guinea for the past 10 years, both in
the U.S. and during her three sojourns to Guinea, where she received intensive training
from members of Guineas most prestigious ballets, including Sekouba Camara, Mouminatou
Camara, Bangaly Bangoura and Hawa Conde. Her marriage of five years to Master Drummer M.
Lamine Dibo Camara bears loving testament to Company Fore-Fote's aspiration to help break
down racial barriers in
the performance and enjoyment of music and dance of Guinea.
Both classes will be accompanied by live traditional West African drumming featuring
djembe soloist Ryan M. Camara.

STYLE OF DANCE: Guinean Traditional Dance
Description of Dance Classes: It is a rare treat in the U.S. to have the
opportunity to learn the dances of Guinea from a Guinean WOMAN. Southern
Oregon is blessed to have Nene Soumah from Guinea's National Ballet Djoliba
teaching both Level I and Level II classes here on a weekly basis.

STYLE OF DANCE: Traditional dance from Ghana, West Africa
Description of Dance Classes:
Nii Ardey's dance classes teach traditional dances from Ghana. The dancing is very
high-energy and uplifting. And the classes are supported by a live african drumming
ensemble allowing the
students to fully appreciate the interaction between the music and the movement.
Class Schedule & Fees:
Beginning classes are offered in 8-week sessions. The classes are held on
Monday evenings from 7:00-8:30pm. Check the Anansi Beat web site for session dates.
Classes cost $10 for an individual
evening or $65 in advance for the entire series.

Nii Ardey ("Nii" is a Ga Tribe Honorific) is a Master Drummer, Dancer
and teacher of dancing, drumming and singing of Ghana, West Africa.
Since coming to the Northwest in 1988, Nii Ardey has continued performing with his
traditional Ghanaian group Kaagba Ohenaa. In addition, he teaches African Drumming and
African Dancing to adults at the Multnomah Art Center in SW Portland. He shares his
culture, music and dance with children in the schools of Oregon and Southwest Washington
through the Young Audiences
and the Arts in Education programs.
In addition to these activities, Nii Ardey is also a recording artist. His
newest CD/Cassette, "Namo Dzibo," includes all the spirit and passion of
traditional Ghanaian music with a more contemporary flavor of the songs composed by Nii
Ardey. He is the owner and operator of Anansi Beat in Portland, Oregon; a shop
offering african drums, musical instruments and crafts. He is available for
workshops and performances.
