Mouminatou teaches Guinea dances and Dun Dun Drum Dancing
Her classes are open to all levels, but are fast paced, feminine, full of
energy, and tend to lean towards dancers with some experience (unless giving
a special beginners workshop).
Mouminatou Camara is a Master Dancer and Teacher. She was a principal dancer
of The Original Les ballets Africains (The National African Ballet Of Guinea)
and is a currently a principal dancer of the infamous Les Mervielles De Guinea, directed by World known choreographer and former artistic director of
Ballet Africains and Ballet Djoliba, Kemoko Sano. She teaches as many dance
conferences all over the country and will soon be offering a trip to Guinea,

STYLE OF DANCE:  African Healing Dance, West African, Caribbean, Brazilian Description of Dance Classes:  In traditional African dance classes students
connect to African culture through dances, drumming and song.  Wyoma's repertoire includes dances from Guinea, Senegal, Mali, Ivory Coast, Ghana,
Nigeria, Congo, South Africa as well as Haiti and Brazil.  Her classes
include opportunities for improvisation.

In the African Healing Dance or "spirit movement", Wyoma utilizes African
dance as a base in which we can explore our own natural rhythms and our
relationship with the world around us.

LOCATION: Wyoma is based in upstate New York and is available for workshops,
residencies as well as holistic health seminars and retreats.

Colleen Hendrick holds a BA in choreography and performance and creative writing from the State University of New York. She has been teaching dance since 1986, and works in a profound way with both children and adults. Evident in her teaching style is her passion to give students ownership of their body's ability to express itself with grace and power, regardless of age or experience.

STYLE OF DANCE: Traditional Guinean dance & new interpretations.

Class Schedule & Fees: Tuesdays at 8:00 PM & Sundays at 12:00 noon. $10 per class. 

Assane is from Conakry and Kindia, Guinea. He lived in Dakar, Senegal for many years where he was a principal dancer, and later dance director, for Les Ballets Bougarabou.  Before settling in New York's Mid-Hudson Valley, Assane toured the world: Japan, Spain, Switzerland, Spain, Portugal, France and Belgium.  In addition to dancing, Assane performs as a fire-eater and drummer with his own group Melody Africa, as well as Mohamed Camara's Foliba.  He has also performed with Nego Gato, Mimo Camara's Kibola Sougai, and Fode Cissoko's Fakoli Dance and Drum. Assane Badji and Melody Africa also give assemblies and workshops for schools and community groups.  
Description of Dance Classes:
Assane's high energy classes are open to all levels and ages; they include a warm-up, main dance, solos, history of the dance performed
and often the accompanying vocals.  All classes are accompanied by live drumming from some of the best West African drummers in the area.

Beginning in Baltimore and continuing with her move to the tri-state area some of her dance mentors have been Hasaan Konte, dir of Kan Kouran, James Blanford, dance capt for the African American International Ballet, Marie Basse Wiles, dir of Maimouna Keita, and Koumba Rahman-Ndiaye dance director of Sabar Ak Ru Afriq. Yewande has been a member of Maimouna Keita, Sabar Ak Ru Afriq, PAKA, Songhai Djeli and is the artistic director of the Iwa L'ewa Heritage Dance Ensemble. She's a 4 time recipient of NJ State Council of the Arts, Folk Arts grant which has allowed her to further her teaching and studying in traditional dance forms. She specializes in the djmebe dances of Mali, Guinea and the sabar dances of Sengeal. Yewande considers herself a djeli of African dance and so her teaching includes not only the movement but the soul, history and culture of African people.
