Music and Dance. www.panjea.org (505) 247 1246. e-mail chriseko@aol.com Drumming classes will be taught with emphasis in three different regions in Africa; West Africa, Central Africa and Southern Africa. Mbira (21 keyed thumb piano) and Marimba classes will be taught focusing on the shona music of Zimbabwe. Traditional methods as well as the new Garikai orchestra system will be studied. Song classes will feature a wide range of contemporary and traditional material. Song writing classes will also be offered in which students will be encouraged to create their own material. Dance classes happen 5 days a week and will be accompanied by live drumming. Lectures will be given by full time faculty as well as guest artists'. Lectures and discussions will delve into the cultural and spiritual foundations from which the music and dance come from. Western Instrument Ensemble will offer instruction in western instruments, i.e.. guitar, keyboards, drum set etc. Students will create an ensemble dedicated to playing contemporary "funky" music. Instrument making will also be available and students will be encouraged to make some of their own instruments in our instrument making shop. Note: *(extra shop fee required). Cost and Dates 3 Month Diploma course; March 1st Through May 29th, total cost $2,350. *(Cost includes 6 day Bantu camp from May 23rd through May 29th) Per Month Programme; March, April or May, $750. *(Does not include 6 day Bantu camp). full time faculty Chris Berry Masango: Master Drummer and composer for the Royal Ancestral Court of Nuandu in Chiriseri Zimbabwe. Internationally renound Mbira player, singer, composer, Marimba player, dancer and lecturer for the past 15 years. Mike Cox,: Master Musician, specializing in the music's of Africa and the African Diaspora. An internationally performing musician Mike plays over 15 different instruments and has been teaching for the last 8 years. Rujeko Dumbutshena Masango: With a specialty in the dances of her people (the Shona of Zimbabwe) Rujeko has travelled globally studying the dances of over ten different countries in Africa. She is not only revered in Zimbabwe as one of the countries best dancers but world wide as well. |
